About
99% of animals killed in the U.S. each year die to
be eaten; Vegan Outreach is working to expose and
end cruelty to animals through the widespread distribution
of our illustrated booklets (pdfs): Why
Vegan, Even
If You Like Meat, and Compassionate
Choices, along with our follow-up Guide
to Cruelty-Free Eating.
As a Vegan Outreach activist, anyone, anywhere, in
any situation can be the best possible spokesperson
for the animals. Our booklets have been distributed
by many individuals and organizations, from middle
school students to animal advocacy organizations (e.g.,
FARM, Farm
Sanctuary, The
Fund for Animals, In
Defense of Animals, Peta,
Mercy for
Animals, etc.).
You can read this history
of Vegan Outreach for more background.
"When my brother and his girlfriend asked me why I am vegan, I gave them Why Vegan. They were both
shocked and are now becoming vegetarian." JJ, Bucks County, PA

Widespread distribution
You can
Millions of hard copies have been handed out by the local
members of Vegan Outreach around the world. The rate of distribution
is increasing every year, limited not by demand -- there are
many individuals, student groups, and organizations who would
like to distribute "as many as you can send" -- but by availability
(i.e., resources for printing and distribution).
These booklets have gone to a diversity of interested individuals,
many of whom had no idea about the consequences of their consumption
habits, and who possibly would never have otherwise received
such compelling information.
Why Vegan, Even If You Like Meat, Compassionate
Choices, and earlier booklets have been distributed
in
- all 50 states,
- Puerto Rico,
- ten Canadian territories and provinces,
- Mexico, and
- numerous other countries (including Australia, Austria,
Brazil, Denmark, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany,
India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand,
Norway, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka,
South Africa, and Taiwan).
In August of 2003, VO launched our Adopt
A College program which has now resulted in volunteers
handing out over a million brochures on hundreds of
college campuses.
An extensive presence on the Internet has reached
many more around the world. Different
language versions of Why Vegan, Even If, and
other information are also available online
(with a new print version of Por Qué Veg
available), and other language versions are being
developed.
As shown by excerpts of feedback printed in the VO
newsletters and eNewsletters,
there are many new vegetarians and vegans because
of Why Vegan, Even If You Like Meat, and
Compassionate Choices, with the number growing
every day. We hope you enjoy the rest of the site
and find it useful. Feel free to contact us to get
involved!

A Discussion
of Finances
The bulk of our money is used to print and distribute
more copies of our booklets. Vegan Outreach has no
endowment -- the more donations we receive (and about
95% of our revenue comes from member donations, with
the rest in grants), the more copies of Why Vegan,
Even If You Like Meat, and Compassionate
Choices are distributed. Our IRS Form 990 can
be viewed at GuideStar.
